Profiling operations increased
With the recession beginning to bite, creating unprecedented market conditions, the order load for both hot dip galv. and organic coated products falls to 60-70 per cent. of normal. The shift pattern at Shotton is reduced to Monday-Friday and Corus Colors manning on site is reduced by about 90 to 460.
Some £8 million is saved on energy, contracts and out-sourcing and a £2 million a year saving has followed a £2 million investment on the Colorcoat line oven section.
Additional operations from the Panels and Profiles business, including a second composite panel line and seven single skin profiling machines, are now located in No.8 bay of the former Cold Strip Mill, creating about 100 new jobs on site.
