The second phase of the “full integration” development is completed by the commissioning of a further two batteries of coke oven and a second blast furnace.
The continuous hot strip rolling mill, commissioned in 1939, is enhanced to produce 15 tonne coils.
A further three Zintec electro plating lines are transferred from Wolverhampton Corrugated at Ellesmere Port. They are located in the Marsh Department, later to become Coatings One, and apply zinc by electrolysis to cold reduced sheets between 36-54 ins. wide.
The workforce is expected to increase from 8,000 to 10,000 by 1957.
