Major export trade
Summers is now exporting 90 per cent of its output, nearly all galvanised, to India, Africa and South America.
Staffordshire steel plant purchased
Shelton Iron, Steel and Coal Company, Stoke-on-Trent, is purchased, to secure independent supplies of pig iron and coal for Shotton. The Shelton company owns a number of coal mines and produces a surplus of pig iron. Many schemes for improvement are subsequently introduced by Summers, with coal mines developed and the output of the Shelton blast furnaces increased, making vital raw materials available for the Shotton Works. In addition, Shelton produces joists and angles, rails and various other steel products.
